Principal's Message From Winnie Oden

Welcome to the Buddy Taylor Middle School website.   We are one of two middle schools in Flagler County serving 7th and 8th grade students. Our students transition to Flagler Palm Coast High School to finish their K-12 educational experience.
I have been the principal at BTMS for the last 6 years. During that time we have seen many changes: our facility has under gone a complete renovation, our State laws and requirements have changed and become more rigorous, our teaching staff has diligently worked toward becoming and maintaining their status of highly qualified  and of course our student population. What has remained steadfast is our recognition as an A school as determined by mandatory State testing. We are proud of our school and welcome you being a part of our family.
Our school culture is very important to us. We consider students our top priority as it relates to academics, safety and preparing them for real world situations. We believe middle school is where students begin to develop perseverance, resiliency, problem solving and the ability to make reasoned decisions. We strive to give them the skills to be independent and self-sufficient. We offer that support, guidance and reassurance as they make the transition to their high school years.

  • Attendance Procedure: Buddy Taylor Middle School does not have a sick line.  When a student is absent they will need to bring in a note within 5 days of the absence.  The note needs to include the child's first and last name, the date of absence(s), and the reason for the absence.  Failure to provide this documentation will result in an unexcused absence.

  • Reporting Bullying: Please help us help you!  No one should have to go through the school day worrying about what may or may not happen to them because of a bully.  The only things our students should be concetrating on is their education.  We can only help if we know what is happening. If your child is a victim of bullying please encourage your child to contact us immediately.  If they are uncomfortable letting one of the staff know what is happening you can report an incident online by clicking on the words "Reporting Bullying" above.  You may also get a hold of us by calling the school number 446-6700.

BUDDY TAYLOR MEDIATION PROGRAM
2011 - 2012 School Year

As a component of our behavior plan, we will be using peer mediators - students who have been trained to help other students resolve minor conflicts and correct minor school rule violations. Selected student mediators will be trained prior to beginning the process. Training includes the ability to stay neutral, giving all students due process, being attentive listeners, solving problems together and perhaps most importantly, the need for confidentiality. An adult advisor will be present during each peer mediation. Our goal is to provide students an opportunity to solve problems and receive consequences [if necessary] in a skill building format.

If parents chose, they may opt out of the process. Referrals and conflicts will then be handled by administration. Please be assured that serious situations will never be handled by the mediation team.

Parental Involvement and Schools

Research tells us that when schools work together with families to support learning, children tend to succeed in school, as well as, life. It's been said, the most accurate predictor of a student's achievement in school is not income or social status, but the extent to which that student's family is able to  encourage learning, set high (realistic) expectations for their children's achievement and to get involved in their children's education at school and in the community.

Below are a few websites that provide insight into helping your child to be successful in school and how to build a strong relationship with the schools.
